In our actual production, some customers require trapezoidal electrode paste, some oval electrode paste, and some cylindrical electrode paste. Although the shapes differ, the raw materials used are the same. Then why are there different shapes?
Although they differ in shape, these electrode pastes are ultimately added to the submerged arc furnace and, through baking, become electrodes for smelting charges. The core purpose of these three electrode paste shapes is to modify the way that electrode paste is stacked within the electrode shell, adapt to manual or automated feeding, and thus match different electrode shell inner diameters and furnace conditions. This optimizes the uniformity of electrode paste melting and ultimately reduces the probability of electrode paste bridging or electrode paste hanging.
Trapezoidal electrode paste has a dense, compacted structure, preventing it from rolling or scattering during manual feeding, making it suitable for open furnaces with open-air feeding. However, if the electrode paste size is too large, the narrow end can easily get stuck in the gaps between the shell ribs.
Therefore, it is suitable for small to medium-sized open submerged arc furnaces and production lines primarily using manual feeding. it is most commonly used in small and medium-sized ferroalloy plants in China.
Oval electrode paste is suitable for transportation, offering the smoothest descent and good melting synchronization. It also has the lowest incidence of electrode paste bridging during low-temperature environments and furnace start-up in winter. However, its stacking is loose, and the compaction is weaker than that of trapezoidal pastes.
Suitable for closed calcium carbide furnaces, production lines where electrode paste bridging frequently occur, low-temperature plants, or small to medium-sized smelting furnaces.
Cylindrical electrode paste allows for precise feeding and has a regular shape, virtually eliminating electrode paste bridging and hanging. However, compared to the other two types of briquette electrode paste, it has the highest production cost and requires specialized molds for forming.
Suitable for large-scale closed submerged arc furnaces, automated feeding production lines, and high-end smelting projects.
