Based on our experience, bottom carbon buildup is often caused by insufficient reducing-agent activity. The key is to reduce raw coal and coke usage while increasing semi-coke. High-current and low-voltage operation can temporarily reduce buildup.
Frequent shutdowns require electrode paste with strong thermal shock resistance. For peak-shaving production, higher-grade raw materials are recommended, such as large residual anode blocks, more electrically calcined coal, and more graphite powder.
Cylindrical paste transfers its weight more fully to the lower electrode shell, helping produce higher density and strength after baking. It also helps solve paste-hanging problems in DC furnaces, where cylindrical paste is strongly recommended.
Caking usually does not affect the final performance, but it makes charging and feeding more difficult. Therefore, caking should still be avoided as much as possible during storage and handling.
Parameters must be matched to real furnace conditions. Lower resistance may affect strength; volatile matter that is too high or too low may cause under-baking or over-baking. A good formula depends on engineering capability, not simply higher or lower indicators.
