The consumption of self-baking electrodes in submerged arc furnaces , that ’ s electrode paste, is divided into normal consumption and abnormal consumption.
Normal consumption refers to unavoidable losses of electrode paste during smelting process, including side oxidation of the self-baking electrode; losses due to the electrodes participating in chemical reactions while embedded in the furnace charge; And aggregate oxidation losses caused by the high temperature of the electric arc at the electrode tip. This is the most significant normal loss.
Abnormal consumption refers to unexpected losses caused by other factors, which are within a controllable range. This includes significant increases in consumption caused by electrode hard breakage, soft breakage, and electrode spalling.
The main reasons affecting abnormal electrode consumption are:
1. Unreasonable proportions of Electrode paste The most important indicators of electrode paste include volatile matter, resistivity, and ash content. Volatile matter is the most crucial. If the volatile matter content of the electrode paste is too high, it can easily cause electrode soft break . Rongxing implements a "one furnace, one formula" principle, confirming the most suitable volatile matter content for the furnace conditions, controlling the error within ±0.1%, and ensuring the electrode paste achieves optimal performance.
2. Equipment and Operational Issues Operationally, electrode slipping too quickly or too slowly, overloading or prolonged low-load operation of the submerged arc furnace, and frequent shutdowns can all affect electrode paste consumption to varying degrees. Underbaking or Overbaking of the electrode paste can easily cause electrode spalling and cracking. Problems with the electrode shell, Electrode Copper Shoe, and Electrode Clamp Holder can also increase electrode paste consumption.
3. Furnace Charge Issues Electrode paste consumption varies depending on the type of ferroalloy being smelted. Under normal circumstances, the consumption of FerroNickel is 8-10 kgs, while that of ferrosilicon is around 35 kgs. Furthermore, for electrode paste suitable for furnace conditions, the consumption caused by using charcoal is far greater than that of semi-coke. If the impurity content of the furnace charge is too high, it will also accelerate the consumption of electrode paste.
